Joint project by EKOenergy ecolabel, WWEA and UWEA
EKOenergy is a global non-profit ecolabel for renewable energy. The label is a tool to speed up the energy transition, by helping consumers choose sustainable renewable energy and supporting them to make an additional positive impact. All consumers of EKOenergy-labelled energy contribute to funding new solar projects in developing countries and help finance campaigns to promote renewable energy worldwide.
Soon after the start of the full-scale brutal war against Ukraine, in February 2022, EKOenergy decided to focus more on the use of renewable energy in Ukraine, as it became immediately clear that energy would play a crucial role in many ways.
On December 13, 2022, an agreement was signed by EKOenergy and the World Wind Energy Association to highlight the importance of renewable energy in the reconstruction of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and contribute to immediate alleviation of the current energy crisis by setting up at least one renewable energy installation on a place where it is urgently needed, to serve humanitarian goals.
“We decided to spend EUR 20,000 of our 2022 renewable energy campaign budget on actions to support the deployment of renewable energy in Ukraine and to provide civilians in Ukraine access to power. To make a positive and lasting impact, we will cooperate with the #renewables4ukraine campaign of the World Wind Energy Association. Our contribution will be used to undertake concrete and tangible humanitarian relief activities and to support advocacy work of local renewable energy organisations such as the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association”, says EKOenergy.
